Oman is a member of the Gulf Cooperation Council alongside Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Kuwait, Bahrain, and Qatar. The country has maintained close ties with the U.S. while also preserving relations with Iran, frequently serving as an intermediary between Washington and Tehran.
Trump's remarks mark the first time the president has directed such language at a traditional U.S. ally in the region.
During the five-month U.S.-Iran war, Oman has pushed for a negotiated settlement and held separate talks with Tehran regarding reopening the Strait of Hormuz. Iranian officials have stated that Iran and Oman will control the Strait under any new agreement.
Earlier on Monday, Trump posted on Truth Social: "The number one Goal is, and always will be, that Iran cannot have, in any way, shape, or form, a Nuclear Weapon. Thank you for your attention to this matter! President DONALD J. TRUMP"
The war with Iran has continued for nearly six months. Peace talks between the U.S. and Iran have stalled, and intermittent clashes continue to disrupt the flow of oil and other commodities through the Strait of Hormuz.
The conflict has caused oil and gas prices to rise ahead of November's midterm elections.
