The Sandbox Announces the Launch of Hong-Kong-Inspired Dubaiverse

  • The Sandbox announces the launch of Dubaiverse at the True Global Ventures Conference.
  • Co-founder of The Sandbox, Sebastian Borget, shared the nitty-gritty of the project.
  • Dubaiverse will feature local entrepreneurs from entertainment, finance, real estate, and others.

Animoca brands’ subsidiary “ The Sandbox”, a virtual world that monetizes gaming experiences, announced the launch of a Dubai-themed metaverse called Dubaiverse. The announcement was made during the 62nd edition of the True Global Ventures conference on September 15, 2022.

Moreover, co-founder of The Sandbox, Sebastian Borget, elaborated more about the Dubaiverse project during a session titled ”After The Sandbox’s Hong Kong Mega City, What is Next in the Dubaiverse?”

While disclosing more details about the project, Borget said that they were building The Sandbox as a new digital nation without frontiers, a space dedicated to creativity.

Furthermore, Borget believes that the metaverse should be local and global, hence they work with the major regions of the world to share their culture, brand, and history in The Sandbox. Subsequently, during the making of this metaverse, he believes that it will enable users to access it, participate in the co-creation of this world, and even become virtual neighbors with them.

Borget, while revealing his thoughts, said:

Dubaiverse is a major step up for this [strategy] with the culture of MENA region being reflected in these first partnerships with Dubai’s VARA, Khaleej Times, and GCEX – the first among many to be announced.

It is reported that Dubaiverse will be inspired by The Sandbox’s Hong Kong Mega City project and will share some similarities.

Just as the Mega City project involves multiple Hong Kong partners from various industries, including film, music, finance, real estate, and gaming, the Dubaiverse is also believed to feature local entrepreneurs and influencers in the metaverse.

GCEX, a digital brokerage firm, is a new partner that will offer virtual asset education in an innovative new way with UAE’s English News Digital Platform, Khaleej Times, soon to join, according to their Chief Digital Officer.

The Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority (VARA) was the first to buy a plot of land in the Dubaiverse. VARA is the world’s first independent regulator of virtual assets and is the central authority for the global virtual asset industry in Dubai.
