NFT Artist Uses DAO to Support the Fight for Reproductive Rights in U.S.

NFT artist Molly Dickson is raising funds to support reproductive rights activists in the U.S. with a 10,000-piece NFT collection. The initiative is taking place in the wake of the U.S. Supreme Court’s act of overturning the landmark ‘Roe v. Wade‘ decision, which had protected pregnant women’s right to abortion for almost 50 years.

DAO to Support Activists

The artist partnered with blockchain-based, non-profit organization Endaoment, and has pledged to donate a total of $3 million raised from NFT sales once they are fully minted. In addition to this, Endaoment also announced the launch of the ‘Protect Reproductive Rights Community Fund’. Through the initiative, anyone can donate to one of seven organizations supporting reproductive rights, such as Planned Parenthood and NARAL Pro-Choice America. As of June 28th the fund has raised over $69,166.

Following the creation of her ‘Computer Cowgirl’ collection, Molly Dickson established ‘COWGIRLDAO’, which currently has about 200 voting members, according to the artist. Each member can vote to decide which organization will receive the raised funds.

The prices of the pieces in the collection range between 0.03 ETH, and 0.9 ETH. 100% of the proceeds from the series are collected by Endaoment, which will allocate the funds to the aforementioned organizations supporting reproductive rights, keeping only 1.5% for the maintenance of Endaoment itself.

Fighting the Good Fight

Dickson first launched her ‘Computer Cowgirls‘ collection back in February. The drop resulted in $30,000 in revenue, which was donated to the Texas Choice fund. The initial collection was the artist’s response to the near-total abortion ban proposed in Texas, and enacted in September.

Following the Supreme Court’s leaked draft in May, Dickson launched her second collection by the name “F*CK YOU.” The first donation raised, amounting to over $27,000, was sent to the Roe Fund in Oklahoma, shortly before the Supreme Court published its decision on June 24th.

In collaboration with Pussy Riot and Unicorn DAO, Dickson the co-created LegalAbortion.eth wallet address. The initiative enables Web 3.0 users to donate funds anonymously.

COWGIRLDAO is gearing up to make its second donation from the “F*CK YOU” NFT collection. DAO members will vote on the exact beneficiary in July.
