(Reuters) - Tesla Inc (O:TSLA) Chief Executive Elon Musk said in a podcast interview released on Thursday that the company's planned Roadster sports car would take a backseat to the development of other vehicle models.

Talking with stand-up comic Joe Rogan, the billionaire also doubled down on his critique of stay-at-home orders imposed by U.S. states to curb the spread of the coronavirus.

Musk said states' lockdown orders were "unconstitutional" and would not hold up before the U.S. Supreme Court if challenged. He previously made such remarks during Tesla's first-quarter earnings call on April 29, calling restrictions "fascist."

The interview marked Musk's second appearance on Rogan's podcast, which is videotaped and published online. Musk became infamous when he smoked a marijuana joint with Rogan during the first interview in September 2018.

When Rogan asked when he could buy a Roadster, Musk responded he could not provide a date, but said other initiatives, including a ramp-up in production of sport utility vehicle Model Y and the construction of a vehicle factory in Berlin, were priorities.

"Roadster is kind of like dessert," Musk said. "We gotta get the meat and potatoes and greens and stuff."

Musk also said Tesla should produce the Cybertruck, a futuristic-looking light commercial vehicle, before working on the Roadster.

Tesla announced the Roadster, a battery-powered four-seater, at the end of 2017 and at the time said the car would be faster than any street-legal production car. Musk in the past has said Roadster sales would begin after a revised version of its Model S sedan is released, which was widely expected to be at the end of 2020.

The two-hour interview focused only in short parts on the virus pandemic and Tesla's business, with much of the discussion centering around artificial intelligence and another of Musk's companies called Neuralink, which develops implantable brain-machine interfaces.

Musk told Rogan those devices could be implanted in people within a year, but said he would have a Neuralink implanted in himself only if it actually works.

they do make a nice care, but a Toyota Prius at half the cost and 50 miles to a gallon with 85 cent gas is a bargain. why don't those Rich peeps donate a few bucks to those who need to feed their families in this environment and get a Tesla say in 5 years. this is what would Make Americans great again. Not a Tesla
And yet the fed keeps pumping up Tesla stocks. The biggest tech bubble in history
These quarantines are un Constitutional period. Since when do we get told what to do without due process of Law? Arbitrary age discrimination without a medical exam?!!.  The 2017-2018 FLU was about as bad with no police telling you where to go and when.  40-50 thousand die on the roads do we ban cars? No we take the risk or walk.. This is how communists operate. If this was really the only way to go how come Sweden one of the highest technology and IQ level countries is not ordering it? But my main point is who is going to pay for the average honest working man who was forced into bankruptcy?. Who will pay for the depression that "house arrest" creates with severe consequences on family and kids. This my friends is why the 2nd Amendment is so important. I watched Venezuelans loose the ability to get justice in their once rich country because they were stripped of fire arms and crushed in a country that once had elections. This is a naked power grab by ultra liberal socialists.
I agree with you except the liberal socialist part, it's a power grab by them the corporate fascists, and most power elite in general. it's not confined to just liberals.
love the coordinated globalist media attacks against anybody criticizing the unnecessary shut downs that have been proven ineffective comparing global data from various countries. the goal of shut down was to flatten the curve, curve has been flat for weeks, time to reopen. the media wanted people tested, even asymptomatic, to pad the numbers - then when the numbers are up because of higher testing rates in the US they say "OMG LOOK HOW MANY CASES THERE ARE" even though more testing simply lead to a lower mortality rate because there are many people who develop no symptoms. it's all a coordinated effort to fearmonger. and complicit media entities like reuters with their globalist overlords are a big part to blame for this COVID-1984 nonsense.
and just for the record, around 500,000 die every year from the common flu, have we shut down the world every flu season? millions die driving too and from work every day... do we shut down the world until a safer mode of transportation is developed? this is all a political and media performance for their ulterior motives. not saying this virus is not real, it absolutely is, but we transmissible viral disease has always been part of human history. a few years ago swine flu spread to over 60 million people, did they shut anything down even during the early stages before we know anything about it? nearly 10,000 people died in the US before obama even declared it an emergency. still did not shut anything down. no democrats hitting the streets saying people who are going to work want to harm grandma.
