Sorry for the maybe trivial question, but I'm not an expert. With the deal expected and now sure at 142$, shouldn't this be at least at that level? Why still at 124??

Acquisition targets usually trade a little less than the target price, both because it will take time for the deal to close (so the time value of money weighs on it) and because there is a chance the deal won’t go through. In this case there are some regulatory risks and the deal won’t close for at least five months and maybe longer; on the flip side, vmw could still get a new higher bid, and there is a stock component to the deal, so 142.5 isn’t a fixed price (right now it would be 144.73).The deal spread (difference between VMW’s price and that 142.5/144.5 number) is a bit bigger than I think makes sense.
