If Trump cares about farmers, he will tweet out that he's "thinking about" and "asking my advisors about" how to do something about concentrated short selling by speculators in Soybeans and Corn. That tweet alone would be a Godsend for farmers going into harvest, while costing the government nothing.

Cargill is to soybean what JP Morgan is to silver. An omnipresent short manipulator.

After the basis spread, that would leave a lot of farmers in the low 5’s, if this breaks under 8. Many are already committing to storing their harvest.

Im near arguably one of the worst basis areas and its at $1.80.... $6.20 isnt great but theres not ample storage out there. I cant remember which report but it still showed a lot of grain binned from 2017... some of which was taken out of storage before harvest

Terp I meant to type low 6's. I think the average out there is $1.60 right now. Market needs some reasonably not-terrible news to get macro funds to start covering shorts and taking profits, looking ahead to position past this harvest.

While beans may indeed be dormant until the trade picture brightens, the COT picture suggests that the MM guys are very short (~3rd percentile in position) and the commercials are indeed very long  (~90+ pctl). This is counted over the past 8 years. So, if, as and when the trade picture brightens, the short covering triggers, the rally is going to have quite a bit of velocity. Just my opinion.

Futures positioning is more lopsided than I've ever seen it, in percentage open interest terms. However that hasn't mattered much lately, since shorts haven't been truly squeezed by price.

DanteValerianAgreed. It's a question of potential energy versus kinetic energy. Potential is only potential till the brakes are released.

Beans have been in a sideways correction for over 3 years.  Next move should be another leg down to the 625 area.  Basis levels will be the highest ever this harvest, already at $1.20 will probably approach 1.35

Needs to go up way more than that if it wants to break this grinding pattern of lower highs. I'm guessing we're at a seasonal bottom, but I've been off the past 3 weeks, so being more defensive on rallies.

WASDE report. Shorts are covering, it seems, or commercials are buying. Take your pick. Corn getting demolished though, not sure why yet. Will see how everything closes the week.

Based on CoT data, i cant see how any more speculative positions go on the short side. Downward pressure must be coming from commercial sellers due to an abundant harvest. I guess some light will be shed on this tomorrow with the USDA data release.

826 1/4 is Nov contract low..Given how oversold beans are on the weekly chart (single digit on stochastic indicator) I think we can see a nice rally but not before making a new contract low

There is only one thing that moves the market. Cargill. No such thing as supply and demand. No such thing as chart positions. Only Cargill’s net position. Algos, spoofed orders, paper dumps and bean prices from the 1980’s when they caused the last farm crisis.

Google JPMorgan precious metals manipulation. Read up on the techniques they use. They have only been at that for a decade. Cargill’s been steering the grain complex for 100 years. There is no such thing as a freely traded market in this country.

The hurricane could spike prices up as it approaches the coast. Too soon in the season for an early harvest in the storm's path, too late to fix any damage done by the hurricane.

Terp Yes, I agree there. However, unless the hurricane weakens or stalls out over the coast on landfall, its outer rim can reach PA, IN, and OH. WASDE tomorrow will be a big catalyst, a lot of money waiting for that report before diving in either way.
