The yen gained briefly against the dollar earlier on Monday after a report showed accelerating growth in machinery orders, boosting the Bank of Japan's case for raising interest rates. Gains in the yen may be limited by concern lawmakers will keep pressuring the Bank of Japan to support the economy. Japan's Economic and Fiscal Policy Minister Hiroko Ota said the country's low interest rates need to be adjusted eventually. “We think the Bank of Japan's likely to raise interest rates this week,” said Steve Barrow, chief currency strategist at Bear Stearns Cos. “However, the government is urging the bank to be more cautious. Dollar-yen has to come down”. The BOJ interest rates statement is due to be released on Thursday, investors are expecting a raise to 0.5 percent.
