Nokia (HE:NOKIA) Corporation (NYSE:NOK) signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Vodacom Group to trial its 5G technology in South Africa.
Per the agreement, the two companies will use Nokia 5G technology to conduct lab and network trials of new services and business cases. In fact, Vodacom’s goal of being the first to launch 5G in South Africa will be supported by Nokia’s superior technology.
The companies will boost economic growth by bringing digitalization benefits to the healthcare, energy and manufacturing plus consumer services industries.They will initially emphasize on the delivery of Ultra-HD and virtual reality video services, utilizing the enhanced mobile broadband and ultra-low latency capabilities of 5G.
Nokia will undergo several workshops and trials with Vodacom. In the process, it will share the latest 5G innovations such as massive MIMO Adaptive Antennas, AirScale Radio Access, AirGile Cloud-native Core, Multi-Access Edge Computing and end-to-end Mobile Anyhaul transport networks to evaluate their uses to meet fluctuating demands of the country.
Moreover, the deal facilitates Vodacom’s efforts to promote digitalization, which will benefit businesses and individuals in South Africa.
