Amazon's Echo Just Got Even Cooler Thanks To GE

General Electric (NYSE:GE) just helped make Amazon’s (NASDAQ:AMZN) Echo smart speaker even cooler with the addition of its new “Geneva” compatibility today. Echo users can now control their GE Wi-Fi-enabled appliances by speaking to the device.

For those unfamiliar with the Echo, it’s a nifty little speaker-like home automation device that uses Amazon’s Alexa software. Users can command the Echo to control compatible devices by saying “Alexa, ____.” To control their GE appliances, Echo owners can give a command like “Alexa, ask Geneva to preheat the oven to 350 degrees.”

Along with ovens, GE also makes “smart” dishwashers, laundry machines, and fridges. Tired of having to actually get off the couch to check if your laundry is done? Well, you owe Amazon and GE a big thank you today.

One of GE’s new fridges even has a built-in Keurig coffeemaker; before you even ask, yes, you can ask Alexa to brew you a cup of coffee using the new Geneva skill.

Cynics will say that the Echo and it latest skill are a cure for the lazy. I say that you’re just jealous of all my robot friends in the kitchen. For more coverage on the budding Internet of Things market, including the Amazon Echo, check out our guide: How to Invest in the "Internet of Things".
