Investing.com – Australia stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Materials, Metals & Mining and Resources sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Sydney, the S&P/ASX 200 added 0.36%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were New Hope Corporation Ltd (ASX:NHC), which rose 8.55% or 0.200 points to trade at 2.540 at the close. Meanwhile, Unibail Rodamco Westfield (ASX:URW) added 6.87% or 0.66 points to end at 10.27 and Lynas Corporation Ltd (ASX:LYC) was up 6.58% or 0.160 points to 2.590 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Pro Medicus Ltd (ASX:PME), which fell 8.31% or 2.760 points to trade at 30.460 at the close. Charter Hall Group (ASX:CHC) declined 5.65% or 0.670 points to end at 11.180 and Appen Ltd (ASX:APX) was down 5.18% or 1.260 points to 23.070.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Sydney Stock Exchange by 676 to 471 and 379 ended unchanged.
The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was down 2.09% to 12.655 a new 1-month low.
Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.16% or 2.45 to $1501.65 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 0.64% or 0.37 to hit $57.77 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 0.63% or 0.39 to trade at $62.77 a barrel.
AUD/USD was up 0.21% to 0.6874, while AUD/JPY rose 0.46% to 74.09.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.05% at 98.352.
