Finnish telecom firm Nokia (HE:NOKIA) and Tata Play Fiber have joined forces to launch India's first WiFi6-ready broadband network. The partnership, announced this Thursday, is designed to meet the increasing demand for high-capacity broadband connections in both residential and business sectors.

Under the agreement, Nokia will provide Tata Play Fiber with fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) and WiFi equipment, including optical line terminal (OLT), optical network terminal (ONT) with WiFi6, and mesh beacons. These resources will work to expand the broadband network's reach within India.

Nokia also plans to supply its WiFi6 Mesh technology as part of the deal. This technology is particularly suitable for large and multi-floor residential homes, as well as small office/home office (SOHO) enterprises. It ensures seamless coverage even in areas with concrete walls or large customer premises.

In addition to hardware, Nokia's AI/ML software will be utilized to enhance user experience on the network. The software will monitor traffic patterns, faults, and potential disruptions in the GPON network, proactively addressing issues before they impact users.

Anand N Sahai, CEO at Tata Play Fiber, stressed that this collaboration will allow them to offer a Wi-Fi6-ready network to their customers - a pioneering move in India's broadband landscape. Vinish Bawa from Nokia echoed this sentiment, expressing pride in their partnership with Tata Play Fiber and their shared commitment to meeting the rising demand for robust, high-capacity connections like WiFi 6 technology.
