Investing.com – U.K. stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the Oil Equipment Services & Distribution, Construction & Materials and Mining sectors led shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 0.90%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Severn Trent PLC (LON:SVT), which rose 2.91% or 53.00 points to trade at 1873.00 at the close. Meanwhile, National Grid PLC (LON:NG) added 2.39% or 18.60 points to end at 796.00 and Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) was up 1.81% or 15.00 points to 845.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Carnival PLC (LON:CCL), which fell 10.83% or 471.00 points to trade at 3877.00 at the close. Mediclinic International PLC (LON:MDCM) declined 5.28% or 17.60 points to end at 315.50 and Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK) was down 4.67% or 86.00 points to 1757.00.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1602 to 528 and 268 ended unchanged.
Shares in Carnival PLC (LON:CCL) fell to 52-week lows; down 10.83% or 471.00 to 3877.00.
Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.60% or 7.60 to $1264.00 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 4.32% or 2.08 to hit $46.09 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 3.97% or 2.27 to trade at $54.97 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.40% to 1.2662, while EUR/GBP rose 0.24% to 0.9043.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.58% at 95.928.
