Investing.com – U.K. stocks were lower after the close on Friday, as losses in the Media, Life Insurance/Assurance and Household Goods & Home Construction sectors led shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 0.83%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Anglo American PLC (L:AAL), which rose 10.68% or 35.05 points to trade at 363.35 at the close. Meanwhile, Meggitt PLC (L:MGGT) added 5.26% or 18.40 points to end at 368.00 and Weir Group PLC (L:WEIR) was up 4.23% or 35.50 points to 875.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Inmarsat PLC (L:ISA), which fell 4.49% or 48.00 points to trade at 1020.00 at the close. Persimmon PLC (L:PSN) declined 3.63% or 74.00 points to end at 1965.00 and SKY PLC (L:SKYB) was down 3.56% or 38.00 points to 1028.00.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1175 to 886 and 493 ended unchanged.
Gold for April delivery was up 0.03% or 0.40 to $1157.90 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 1.07% or 0.34 to hit $31.38 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 0.61% or 0.21 to trade at $34.25 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.82% to 1.4469, while EUR/GBP rose 0.19% to 0.7698.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.61% at 97.10.
