Investing.com – U.K. stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Mining, Healthcare Equipment & Services and Forestry & Paper sectors led shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 0.47%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Travis Perkins PLC (LON:TPK), which rose 4.05% or 66.00 points to trade at 1695.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Barratt Developments PLC (LON:BDEV) added 2.94% or 14.300 points to end at 500.500 and Lloyds Banking Group PLC (LON:LLOY) was up 2.92% or 1.6800 points to 59.2700 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Randgold Resources Ltd (LON:RRS), which fell 5.05% or 405.00 points to trade at 7615.00 at the close. Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) declined 4.03% or 74.00 points to end at 1762.00 and Old Mutual PLC (LON:OML) was down 3.96% or 8.10 points to 196.40.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1070 to 1018 and 471 ended unchanged.
Gold for December delivery was down 1.11% or 14.95 to $1331.15 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in October fell 2.85% or 1.37 to hit $46.73 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 1.82% or 0.91 to trade at $49.05 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.38% to 1.3247, while EUR/GBP fell 0.75% to 0.8501.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.26% at 94.75.
