Investing.com – U.K. stocks were lower after the close on Friday, as losses in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Automobiles & Parts and Industrial Engineering sectors led shares lower.
At the close in London, the FTSE 100 fell 0.93%.
The best performers of the session on the FTSE 100 were BP Plc (LONDON:BP), which rose 1.25% or 5.90 points to trade at 479.35 at the close. Meanwhile, Severn Trent Plc (LONDON:SVT) added 0.61% or 13.00 points to end at 2134.00 and SKY PLC (LONDON:SKYB) was up 0.48% or 5.00 points to 1052.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were St James`S Place (LONDON:SJP), which fell 3.23% or 31.00 points to trade at 927.50 at the close. Anglo American (LONDON:AAL) declined 2.74% or 28.50 points to end at 1010.50 and GKN (LONDON:GKN) was down 2.51% or 9.30 points to 361.30.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the London Stock Exchange by 2002 to 586 and 468 ended unchanged.
Gold for June delivery was up 0.35% or 4.20 to $1202.20 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 1.15% or 0.65 to hit $56.06 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 0.05% or 0.04 to trade at $63.95 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.04% to 1.4940, while EUR/GBP rose 0.15% to 0.7216.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.07% at 97.81.
