Investing.com – U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Mining and Banking sectors led shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 1.71%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO), which rose 6.30% or 33.50 points to trade at 565.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Glencore PLC (LON:GLEN) added 5.63% or 13.40 points to end at 251.20 and BHP Billiton PLC (LON:BLT) was up 4.76% or 55.50 points to 1221.50 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES), which fell 3.02% or 49.00 points to trade at 1576.00 at the close. Randgold Resources Ltd (LON:RRS) declined 1.69% or 115.00 points to end at 6675.00 and Tesco PLC (LON:TSCO) was down 1.14% or 2.30 points to 200.20.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1639 to 672 and 447 ended unchanged.
Shares in Glencore PLC (LON:GLEN) rose to 52-week highs; up 5.63% or 13.40 to 251.20.
Gold for December delivery was down 1.93% or 25.15 to $1279.35 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 0.68% or 0.30 to hit $44.37 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract rose 0.09% or 0.04 to trade at $45.62 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.96% to 1.2397, while EUR/GBP rose 0.01% to 0.8903.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.92% at 97.83.
