Twitter's CEO Elon Musk set off his latest user poll over the weekend, asking the public whether he should step down as the head of the social network.

As the voting concluded early Monday, 17.5 million users have had a say, with 57.5% voting "Yes" in favor of Musk's resignation.

Mimicking his prior public polls, Elon Musk did state he will abide by the results, implying a potential CEO change at Twitter may be forthcoming.

Commenting on potential successors, Twitter's new owner said: "The question is not finding a CEO, the question is finding a CEO who can keep Twitter alive."

Since taking over Twitter, Mr. Musk has been at the center of multiple controversies surrounding Twitter's content policies, as well as his personal involvement in the decision-making.

The billionaire has also received a share of criticism from investors in his other ventures – most notably Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA) – who have blamed TSLA's nearly 60% YTD price drop on Musk's loss of focus, and lack of confidence in his leadership.
