Investing.com -- HBO and Apple are closing in on a deal that will make HBO's video streaming service available on Apple TV when it debuts next month, multiple outlets reported on Wednesday.
The video streaming service, which will be called HBO Now, according to the International Business Times, is preparing to launch in April in time for the season premiere of Game of Thrones. The service will allow viewers to access HBO programming without a subscription to a cable provider.
Although the two companies are considering offering a monthly subscription of $15 a month for the service, according to CNBC, a final decision on subscription costs has not been made.
Apple TV, which launched the first of three versions in 2007, reportedly eclipsed 20 million in unit sales of the player last spring. There was little movement with Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) stock in after hours trading, as it fell 0.07% to 128.54.
Last October, HBO Chairman Richard Plepler told investors that the service will target 10 million customers nationwide that have internet access, but do not subscribe to cable or satellite TV. Time Warner Inc (NYSE:TWX), which owns HBO, was down 0.10% to 83.08 in after hours trading.
