Lancia, a subsidiary of FCA Italy, a Stellantis (NYSE:STLA) division, will expand beyond Italy in Freruary when the carmaker launches their third generation Ypsilon.

The small vehicle will start with a limited edition full-electric variant. The limited 1,906 units will lead the brand as the first full-electric Lancia, as well as the last model to offer an internal-combustion-engine variant.

As part of the 10-year "Renaissance" strategic plan, Lancia has outlined its commitment to exclusively offer fully electric vehicles after the year 2028.

As of now, Lancia only offers the current three-door Ypsilon, which made its debut back in 2011.

The vehicle is constructed on the Mini platform, originally developed by Fiat Chrysler Automobiles before the merger with the PSA Group, leading to the establishment of Stellantis.

Notably, this architecture is shared with the Fiat Panda.

Between January and October, sales of the Ypsilon increased by 8.4 percent compared to the same period in 2022, reaching 37,731 units, as reported by market researcher Dataforce.

Dataforce also highlighted that within the small premium segment in Europe, the Ypsilon secured the third position, albeit with limited competition in this particular segment.

Lancia chose the number 1,906 for the launch edition to celebrate the year the brand was founded (1906).

Shares of STLA are up 0.24% in early trading Monday morning.
