Investing.com – Japan stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Shipbuilding, Glass and Insurance sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 fell 1.76%.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Nippon Meat Packers, Inc. (T:2282), which rose 9.35% or 236.0 points to trade at 2759.0 at the close. Meanwhile, Showa Denko K.K. (T:4004) added 8.52% or 116.0 points to end at 1477.0 and Yahoo Japan Corp. (T:4689) was up 3.97% or 16.0 points to 419.5 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were NTN Corp. (T:6472), which fell 14.14% or 57.0 points to trade at 346.0 at the close. Sumitomo Electric Industries Ltd. (T:5802) declined 11.58% or 179.5 points to end at 1370.0 and NSK Ltd. (T:6471) was down 8.26% or 96.0 points to 1066.0.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 2733 to 364 and 191 ended unchanged.

The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 15.37% to 22.59 a new 1-month high.
Crude oil for December delivery was down 0.75% or 0.35 to $46.32 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in January fell 0.64% or 0.31 to hit $47.83 a barrel, while the December Gold contract rose 0.55% or 7.05 to trade at $1295.05 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.26% to 103.87, while EUR/JPY fell 0.17% to 114.94.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.08% at 97.68.
