Investing.com – Japan stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the Retail, Construction and Insurance sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 fell 0.38%.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Nippon Suisan Kaisha, Ltd. (T:1332), which rose 7.21% or 44.0 points to trade at 654.0 at the close. Meanwhile, Toshiba Corp. (T:6502) added 5.31% or 14.4 points to end at 285.6 and Toho Zinc Co., Ltd. (T:5707) was up 4.95% or 21.0 points to 445.0 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Dentsu Inc. (T:4324), which fell 3.16% or 180.0 points to trade at 5510.0 at the close. Mitsui Fudosan Co., Ltd. (T:8801) declined 2.62% or 69.5 points to end at 2583.5 and Suzuki Motor Corp. (T:7269) was down 2.52% or 138.0 points to 5330.0.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 1779 to 1270 and 297 ended unchanged.
Shares in Nippon Suisan Kaisha, Ltd. (T:1332) rose to 52-week highs; up 7.21% or 44.0 to 654.0.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 1.10% to 14.35.
Crude oil for July delivery was up 0.72% or 0.33 to $46.05 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in August rose 0.75% or 0.36 to hit $48.42 a barrel, while the August Gold Futures contract fell 0.38% or 4.97 to trade at $1288.23 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.02% to 109.80, while EUR/JPY fell 0.11% to 123.50.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.06% at 96.73.
