Investing.com – Japan stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the Insurance, Power and Pharmaceutical Industry sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 declined 0.09%.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Konami Corp. (T:9766), which rose 4.91% or 210.0 points to trade at 4490.0 at the close. Meanwhile, Advantest Corp. (T:6857) added 3.85% or 70.0 points to end at 1887.0 and SUMCO Corp. (T:3436) was up 3.34% or 50.0 points to 1546.0 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Olympus Corp. (T:7733), which fell 5.08% or 210.0 points to trade at 3925.0 at the close. Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. (T:9107) declined 3.58% or 10.0 points to end at 269.5 and Tokyo Electric Power Co., Inc. (T:9501) was down 2.25% or 11.5 points to 498.5.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 1740 to 1268 and 364 ended unchanged.

The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 1.07% to 17.59.
Crude oil for February delivery was down 0.10% or 0.05 to $52.44 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in February fell 0.07% or 0.04 to hit $54.42 a barrel, while the February Gold contract fell 0.12% or 1.35 to trade at $1131.85 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.10% to 117.69, while EUR/JPY rose 0.24% to 122.85.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.07% at 102.97.
