Investing.com – Japan stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the Shipbuilding, Power and Fishery sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 declined 1.57%.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Fujikura Ltd. (TYO:5803), which rose 2.95% or 64.00 points to trade at 2,232.50 at the close. Meanwhile, Nippon Electric Glass Co., Ltd. (TYO:5214) added 2.52% or 95.00 points to end at 3,861.00 and Sumitomo Realty & Development Co. (TYO:8830) was up 2.51% or 138.00 points to 5,640.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Obayashi Corp. (TYO:1802), which fell 5.04% or 95.00 points to trade at 1,790.00 at the close. Nissui Corp (TYO:1332) declined 5.01% or 49.90 points to end at 946.30 and Credit Saison Co., Ltd. (TYO:8253) was down 4.93% or 161.00 points to 3,108.00.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 2827 to 900 and 147 ended unchanged.

(TYO:5214) rose to 5-year highs; gaining 2.52% or 95.00 to 3,861.00. Shares in Sumitomo Realty & Development Co. (TYO:8830) rose to all time highs; up 2.51% or 138.00 to 5,640.00.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 1.84% to 18.72.
Crude oil for May delivery was up 0.58% or 0.47 to $81.82 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in June rose 0.47% or 0.40 to hit $85.81 a barrel, while the June Gold Futures contract rose 0.24% or 5.40 to trade at $2,218.10 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.00% to 151.32, while EUR/JPY fell 0.04% to 163.69.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.02% at 104.08.
