Investing.com – Japan stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Transportation Equipment, Food and Pharmaceutical Industry sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 added 1.28%.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Daiichi Sankyo Co., Ltd. (T:4568), which rose 7.92% or 189.0 points to trade at 2576.0 at the close. Meanwhile, Kao Corp. (T:4452) added 3.83% or 223.0 points to end at 6044.0 and Astellas Pharma Inc. (T:4503) was up 3.82% or 59.0 points to 1605.0 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were The Japan Steel Works, Ltd. (T:5631), which fell 5.31% or 26.0 points to trade at 464.0 at the close. Kobe Steel, Ltd. (T:5406) declined 2.17% or 2.0 points to end at 90.0 and DOWA Holdings Co., Ltd. (T:5714) was down 2.16% or 13.0 points to 588.0.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 1420 to 456 and 120 ended unchanged.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 2.32% to 32.01.
Crude oil for August delivery was down 0.86% or 0.43 to $49.53 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in August fell 1.03% or 0.52 to hit $50.13 a barrel, while the August Gold contract fell 0.44% or 5.70 to trade at $1286.40 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.47% to 104.43, while EUR/JPY rose 0.71% to 118.44.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.12% at 93.57.
