Investing.com – Japan stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the Transportation Equipment, Shipbuilding and Mining sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 rose 1.07%.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Sharp Corp. (T:6753), which rose 6.80% or 8.5 points to trade at 133.5 at the close. Meanwhile, Nippon Sheet Glass Co., Ltd. (T:5202) added 6.17% or 5.0 points to end at 86.0 and JFE Holdings, Inc. (T:5411) was up 5.60% or 75.0 points to 1414.5 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Casio Computer Co., Ltd. (T:6952), which fell 4.18% or 68.0 points to trade at 1560.0 at the close. Nichirei Corp. (T:2871) declined 2.25% or 21.0 points to end at 912.0 and KDDI Corp. (T:9433) was down 2.00% or 63.0 points to 3093.0.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 1307 to 568 and 124 ended unchanged.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 0.67% to 34.73.
Crude oil for August delivery was down 0.02% or 0.01 to $49.12 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in August rose 0.06% or 0.03 to hit $49.91 a barrel, while the August Gold contract rose 0.04% or 0.45 to trade at $1270.45 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.04% to 104.37, while EUR/JPY rose 0.31% to 118.34.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.27% at 93.56.
