Investing.com – Japan stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the Mining, Gas & Water and Power sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 added 0.66% to hit a new 3-months high.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Nippon Yusen K.K (T:9101), which rose 7.31% or 14.0 points to trade at 205.5 at the close. Meanwhile, Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (T:9104) added 6.57% or 16.0 points to end at 259.5 and J.Front Retailing Co., Ltd. (T:3086) was up 5.82% or 73.0 points to 1327.0 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Konami Corp. (T:9766), which fell 2.83% or 105.0 points to trade at 3610.0 at the close. SUMCO Corp. (T:3436) declined 2.80% or 25.0 points to end at 867.0 and Nomura Holdings Inc (T:8604) was down 2.76% or 13.7 points to 482.4.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 1146 to 729 and 181 ended unchanged.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 4.66% to 22.89.
Crude oil for October delivery was up 0.54% or 0.24 to $44.39 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in November rose 0.06% or 0.03 to hit $46.86 a barrel, while the December Gold contract rose 0.13% or 1.75 to trade at $1329.85 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.41% to 103.48, while EUR/JPY fell 0.33% to 115.69.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.25% at 95.63.
