Investing.com – Japan stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the Transportation Equipment, Paper & Pulp and Services sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 added 0.01%.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were The Japan Steel Works, Ltd. (T:5631), which rose 12.11% or 51.0 points to trade at 472.0 at the close. Meanwhile, Dainippon Screen Mfg. Co., Ltd. (T:7735) added 5.85% or 57.0 points to end at 1032.0 and Nippon Sheet Glass Co., Ltd. (T:5202) was up 3.57% or 3.0 points to 87.0 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Inpex Corp. (T:1605), which fell 5.89% or 53.4 points to trade at 852.7 at the close. NSK Ltd. (T:6471) declined 4.91% or 51.0 points to end at 987.0 and Taiheiyo Cement Corp. (T:5233) was down 4.91% or 14.0 points to 271.0.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 1039 to 834 and 130 ended unchanged.
Shares in Dainippon Screen Mfg. Co., Ltd. (T:7735) rose to 3-years highs; gaining 5.85% or 57.0 to 1032.0.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 0.67% to 26.73.
Crude oil for June delivery was down 1.16% or 0.56 to $47.63 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in July fell 1.41% or 0.69 to hit $48.24 a barrel, while the June Gold contract fell 1.51% or 19.25 to trade at $1255.15 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.01% to 110.19, while EUR/JPY rose 0.06% to 123.69.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.03% at 95.17.
