Investing.com – Japan stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the Shipbuilding, Precision Instruments and Paper & Pulp sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 rose 0.28% to hit a new all time high.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Chugai Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. (TYO:4519), which rose 6.37% or 360.00 points to trade at 6,008.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd. (TYO:7012) added 4.44% or 175.00 points to end at 4,118.00 and TOTO Ltd. (TYO:5332) was up 4.30% or 168.00 points to 4,078.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Nexon Co Ltd (TYO:3659), which fell 3.49% or 88.00 points to trade at 2,432.50 at the close. Dainippon Screen Mfg. Co., Ltd. (TYO:7735) declined 3.47% or 690.00 points to end at 19,205.00 and Asahi Group Holdings, Ltd. (TYO:2502) was down 2.69% or 147.00 points to 5,311.00.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 2168 to 1485 and 241 ended unchanged.
Shares in Chugai Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. (TYO:4519) rose to all time highs; up 6.37% or 360.00 to 6,008.00.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 4.82% to 19.56.
Crude oil for April delivery was down 0.30% or 0.23 to $76.26 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in May fell 0.26% or 0.21 to hit $80.59 a barrel, while the April Gold Futures contract fell 0.33% or 6.75 to trade at $2,042.65 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.04% to 150.43, while EUR/JPY fell 0.08% to 162.84.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.01% at 103.87.
