Investing.com – Canada stocks were lower after the close on Friday, as losses in the Healthcare, Mining and Materials sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite declined 0.33%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Badger Daylighting Ltd . (TO:BAD), which rose 16.71% or 3.54 points to trade at 24.72 at the close. Meanwhile, Torex Gold Resources Inc (TO:TXG) added 8.10% or 2.400 points to end at 32.020 and Extendicare Inc (TO:EXE) was up 4.80% or 0.39 points to 8.52 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Concordia Healthcare Corp (TO:CXR), which fell 39.09% or 8.31 points to trade at 12.95 at the close. Northview Apartment REIT (TO:NVU_u) declined 4.87% or 1.07 points to end at 20.92 and ProMetic Life Sciences Inc. (TO:PLI) was down 4.33% or 0.130 points to 2.870.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 667 to 474 and 145 ended unchanged.
Shares in Concordia Healthcare Corp (TO:CXR) fell to 52-week lows; losing 39.09% or 8.31 to 12.95. Shares in Torex Gold Resources Inc (TO:TXG) rose to all time highs; up 8.10% or 2.400 to 32.020.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 11.83% to 11.40.
Gold for December delivery was down 0.67% or 9.05 to $1340.95 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 2.69% or 1.17 to hit $44.66 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 2.37% or 1.09 to trade at $47.13 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.23% to 0.7716, while CAD/EUR rose 0.07% to 0.6914.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.20% at 95.71.
