Investing.com – Canada stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the Healthcare, Energy and Clean Technology sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite declined 1.05% to hit a new 52-week low.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were New Gold Inc (TO:NGD), which rose 5.77% or 0.060 points to trade at 1.100 at the close. Meanwhile, NovaGold Resources Inc (TO:NG) added 3.24% or 0.17 points to end at 5.41 and Celestica Inc. (TO:CLS) was up 3.15% or 0.40 points to 13.11 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Aphria Inc (TO:APH), which fell 17.35% or 2.680 points to trade at 12.770 at the close. Aurora Cannabis Inc (TO:ACB) declined 15.80% or 1.450 points to end at 7.730 and Canopy Growth Corp (TO:WEED) was down 14.40% or 7.290 points to 43.340.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 907 to 253 and 99 ended unchanged.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 1.74% to 20.28.
Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.12% or 1.50 to $1231.00 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 1.15% or 0.78 to hit $66.81 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract fell 0.84% or 0.65 to trade at $76.97 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.24% to 0.7615, while CAD/EUR fell 0.07% to 0.6689.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.26% at 96.38.
