Investing.com – Canada stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the Materials, Utilities and Industrials sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite declined 0.20%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Aphria Inc (TO:APH), which rose 6.42% or 0.670 points to trade at 11.100 at the close. Meanwhile, Canopy Growth Corp (TO:WEED) added 6.00% or 1.910 points to end at 33.760 and Aurora Cannabis Inc (TO:ACB) was up 4.62% or 0.340 points to 7.700 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Parex Resources Inc (TO:PXT), which fell 5.42% or 1.260 points to trade at 21.990 at the close. New Gold Inc (TO:NGD) declined 5.22% or 0.130 points to end at 2.360 and Precision Drilling Corporation (TO:PD) was down 4.79% or 0.23 points to 4.57.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 556 to 508 and 137 ended unchanged.
Shares in New Gold Inc (TO:NGD) fell to 5-year lows; losing 5.22% or 0.130 to 2.360.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 7.39% to 12.79.
Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.51% or 6.30 to $1224.80 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 0.66% or 0.45 to hit $67.81 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 0.16% or 0.12 to trade at $72.95 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.16% to 0.7595, while CAD/EUR rose 0.03% to 0.6492.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.17% at 94.41.
