Investing.com – Canada stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Clean Technology, Financials and Consumer Discretionary sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.27%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were West Fraser Timber Co. Ltd . (TO:WFT), which rose 5.66% or 2.63 points to trade at 49.13 at the close. Meanwhile, Ivanhoe Mines Ltd. (TO:IVN) added 5.65% or 0.230 points to end at 4.300 and Toromont Industries Ltd . (TO:TIH) was up 5.18% or 2.19 points to 44.46 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Asanko Gold Inc (TO:AKG), which fell 12.40% or 0.610 points to trade at 4.310 at the close. Ensign Energy Services Inc (TO:ESI) declined 7.72% or 0.70 points to end at 8.37 and Baytex Energy Corp (TO:BTE) was down 4.63% or 0.23 points to 4.74.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 586 to 582 and 138 ended unchanged.
Shares in Ivanhoe Mines Ltd. (TO:IVN) rose to 3-years highs; gaining 5.65% or 0.230 to 4.300. Shares in Toromont Industries Ltd. (TO:TIH) rose to all time highs; rising 5.18% or 2.19 to 44.46.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 0.32% to 12.40.
Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.28% or 3.50 to $1235.60 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 1.40% or 0.74 to hit $52.27 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 0.93% or 0.52 to trade at $55.20 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.71% to 0.7592, while CAD/EUR fell 0.13% to 0.7104.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.50% at 100.34.
