Investing.com – Australia stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the Gold, IT and Financials sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Sydney, the S&P/ASX 200 rose 0.23%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were Qube Holdings Ltd (ASX:QUB), which rose 6.71% or 0.22 points to trade at 3.50 at the close. Meanwhile, Bega Cheese Ltd (ASX:BGA) added 5.06% or 0.21 points to end at 4.36 and Amcor PLC (ASX:AMC) was up 4.36% or 0.63 points to 15.08 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Bapcor Ltd (ASX:BAP), which fell 24.05% or 1.39 points to trade at 4.39 at the close. Omni Bridgeway Ltd (ASX:OBL) declined 6.09% or 0.07 points to end at 1.08 and Pointsbet Holdings Ltd (ASX:PBH) was down 4.85% or 0.03 points to 0.49.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Sydney Stock Exchange by 580 to 563 and 428 ended unchanged.
Shares in Qube Holdings Ltd (ASX:QUB) rose to 3-years highs; gaining 6.71% or 0.22 to 3.50. Shares in Bapcor Ltd (ASX:BAP) fell to 3-years lows; down 24.05% or 1.39 to 4.39. Shares in Omni Bridgeway Ltd (ASX:OBL) fell to 5-year lows; losing 6.09% or 0.07 to 1.08.
The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was down 8.08% to 11.65.
Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.66% or 15.15 to $2,326.15 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 0.70% or 0.55 to hit $79.55 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 0.73% or 0.61 to trade at $84.05 a barrel.
AUD/USD was unchanged 0.34% to 0.65, while AUD/JPY rose 0.80% to 101.68.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.11% at 105.51.
