LONDON, Oct 23 (Reuters) - European shares fell in afternoon trade on Friday as heavyweight oil stocks reversed earlier gains after crude prices retreated on doubt over the economic recovery.
By 1504 GMT, the pan-European FTSEurofirst 300 index of top shares was down 0.3 percent at 1,011.66 points after trading as high as 1,027.89 points earlier in the day.
Oil stocks featured among the biggest losers. Galp Energia, Petroplus, Royal Dutch Shell and Total were down 0.3 to 1.6 percent. (Reporting by Joanne Frearson)
