WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump said on Sunday that he would delay an increase in tariffs on Chinese goods that had been scheduled for Friday, citing "substantial progress" in U.S.-China trade talks over the weekend.

Trump said he would plan a summit meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida to conclude an agreement, assuming both sides make additional progress.

The markets will continue to go up on progress and optimism until we don't and become tired of pumping it up to these levels based on hope.  We still have 15% tariffs and it's just kicking it down the road until Trump meets Xi.  What is the catalyst that will continue to bring the markets higher at this time, and at what point is "progress" already baked in?
so stocks are likely to go down or up?
positive for market...likely to move up
Probably...
up
He keeps throwing a bone with the word “progress”... what a sham!
The art of the cave, weak
What is the benefit/downside in delaying thus?
Because you are negoating - and renewing the trade war would put everything back to the beginning and both economies are suffering.
Potus Vacillates like a pendelum
Trump is losing business support for his trade policy and needs to declare a victory before the damage to international trade gets worse - meaning the farmers in the midwest who have lost a valuable market for their products.
What a fraud
President Trump it seems is manipulating the market . Do not believe anything he says . . He vacillates his opinions and policies like a yo yo
He has no “policy” - he has slogans because a real trade policy would require more than slamming on tariffs without understanding that the added costs are paid by Americans..
How long? It is useless for business if Trump cannot give a minimum of sixty days notice!
