U.S. likely to miss July 4 COVID-19 vaccine target, White House says

WASHINGTON (Reuters) -The United States will likely fail to meet President Joe Biden's goal to deliver at least one COVID-19 vaccine to 70% of adults by July 4, officials said on Tuesday and warned the Delta variant first found in India poses the greatest threat to U.S. eradication efforts.

They said the administration is poised to meet the target for adults 27 and older on July 4, U.S. Independence Day, but will fall short of Biden's goal for adults 18 and older.

"Our focus from the beginning has been continuing to redouble our efforts among demographics and groups where we need extra assistance," White House press secretary Jen Psaki said.

White House COVID-19 senior adviser Jeffrey Zients said it would likely take a few weeks beyond July 4 to meet Biden's target.

"The country has more work to do... particularly with 18- to 26-year-olds," Zients told reporters.

"The reality is many younger Americans have felt like COVID-19 is not something that impacts them, and they've been less eager to get the shot."

The Delta variant is the greatest threat to the effort to eradicate COVID-19 within U.S. borders, U.S. infectious disease expert Dr. Anthony Fauci said during a call with reporters.

Fauci said existing vaccines were effective against the new variant, which is more transmissible than the original variant.

"We have the tools, so let's use them and crush the outbreak," Fauci said.

The United States already has vaccinated 70% of adults age 30 and older, Zients said.

Fifteen of the 50 states and Washington, D.C., have delivered at least one shot to 70% of adults 18 and older.

The rate of U.S. vaccinations has increased by less than one percentage point over the past two weeks and would have to more than double over the next two weeks for the United States to hit Biden's target.

Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris and other top officials have deployed a campaign-style push encouraging more Americans to get shots in order to protect public health as well as reopen the economy and return the country to a path of normalcy.

Racial imbalances in vaccination rates, the Delta variant and the challenge of convincing young American adults they should protect themselves with the vaccine remain roadblocks.

Also a thought experiment/illustration, let's say that there was a virus that ki.lls nobody. But you create a test for this virus that can detect the virus 100% of the time but has a 5% false positive rate and you test 100 million people. And let's say there is a 10% incidence of this virus in the population. This means that if you test all 100 million people, you will have 10 million positive tests from people who have the actual virus, and 4.5 million false positives (5% false positive rate from the 90% of the population that is uninfected). Now let's say you start counting everybody who di.es after testing positive for the virus as having di.ed from the virus. If 5% of the population di.es each year just from other causes, this means that you are going to have 725,000 dea.ths counted from that virus...even if the virus actually ki.lls nobody. So I am not suggesting COVID-19 does not ki.ll people, but the way that they count COVID-19 deaths is false and misleading.
The CDC during the pandemic was even including suicide and drug overdose as co-morbidities for COVID-19. Virtually anybody who died of anything and also had diagnosis code of COVID-19 was counted towards the de.ath total. This is unprecedented.
But whats the alternative??? Do we pull mortality info from no data? Do we say lets roll the dice for 1-2 years till we can accurately test and then act? From my point of view it really is hindsight is 20/20 where looking back we know what the right action was. What happens if the disease mutates to become more dangerous? So many unknowns are there that any approach is going to be severely flawed.
Considering that the current development of scientific knowledge of 1918 and it only took us 2 years to get over the Spanish flu, that was miles more dangerous than Covid.....Yes, a 1000x times yes. This pandemic was made 1000x worse because of the panic the government spread. Had we not reacted that way, Covid never would never have gotten as bad as they say it has.
Step 1: Test everybody for COVID-19. Step 2: Attribute every de.ath of people who test positive for COVID-19 as having di.ed form COVID-19. Step 3: Fearmonger and give government more power. People with one or more functioning brain cells see the sc.am as politicians and the media try their best to drag this on. COVID-19 is the only pandemic that has needed its own marketing and PR department to remind people daily it even exists. And to be clear, COVID-19 is real, but the fearmongering is related to statistical manipulation/deception and political motivation. There is a reason that the demographics of people who di.e from COVID-19 are identical to the demographics of people who di.ed before COVID-19 and the overall population mortality rate of the globe has been unchanged.
Also of note, mass vaccinating the population including low risk individuals with experimental vaccines has been very helpful at accelerating the formation of resistant mutant variants. They are even admitting - under their breath - that the vaccines people are getting are not even expected to last a year.
The worst part of this scam demic is , majority of people believe in this propaganda and that is why so many takes this exper. mRNA jab .
Thank goodness, hopefully this will slow down the formation of more deadly variants strains that the vaccines are producing. Even with nonstop propaganda and statistical manipulation/lies they cannot hide this failure of government over-reach.

Not when the goal of the vaccine is not to actually prevent disease, but for a political and economic agenda.
If the vaccines were effective, then there would be no need to push the experimental vaccines that have proven cardiac risks in low risk populations even after high risk individuals have been vaccinated. Young people have higher risk with the common cold and driving to get the vaccine than with the virus itself.
2 weeks to slow the spread…I think the health care system is out of danger by now.
