Investment Strategy

The investment seeks to provide long-term capital appreciation. The fund invests primarily in equity securities of foreign and domestic companies that the Adviser believes are undervalued. Equity securities that the fund will principally invest in are common stocks, preferred stocks and exchange traded funds ("ETFs") that invest primarily in equity securities. Under normal circumstances, the fund will invest at least 80% of its net assets (plus the amount of borrowing for investment purposes, if any) in equity securities of small capitalization companies.

Mr. Culpepper is a member of the Investment Committee and is involved in equity research. He is a graduate of Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio where he earned a double Bachelor of Science degree in Management Information Systems and Management in 1995 and an MBA in 2005. Mr. Culpepper also holds the Chartered Mutual Fund Counselor (CMFC) designation.

Biography Barry R. James, CFA, CIC, is President and Chief Executive Officer of James Investment Research, a portfolio manager, and is a senior member of the Investment Committee. He is President of the James Advantage Funds. He received his undergraduate degree from the United States Air Force Academy and his Master’s Degree from Boston University. He joined JIR in its beginning years before a tour of duty as an officer with the United States Air Force. He returned to JIR in 1986. Mr. James currently oversees the management of James Investment Research and holds a CFA charter.

Biography David W. James, CFA, joined James Investment Research in 1981 and is the Director of Research, a Senior Vice President, portfolio manager, and member of the Investment Committee. His responsibilities include research projects and statistical analysis. Mr. James studied computer science and statistics at Florida State University and Wright State University.

Biography Matthew G. Watson, CFA, CPA, joined James Investment Research in 2007 and is a portfolio manager. Mr. Watson is a member of the Investment Committee and also supports the accounting and research functions. Biography Dr. Frank James, PhD, is the Founder and Chairman of James Investment Research (“JIR”) and Senior Advisor to the Investment Committee. Dr. James earned his Ph.D. from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1967. Dr. James was formerly in charge of the graduate management program and a professor of Management and Statistics at the Air Force Institute of Technology. In 2016, Dr. James began serving in an advisory role to JIR, transitioning from his previous role as a portfolio manager.
Thomas L. Mangan Senior Vice President 1998 2018
Biography Thomas L. Mangan joined James Investment Research in 1994 and is a Senior Vice President, portfolio manager, and member of the Investment Committee. Mr. Mangan is also Vice President, Chief Financial Officer, and Secretary of the James Advantage Funds. He is a graduate of the Ohio State University and earned his MBA from the University of Notre Dame in 1974. Mr. Mangan has over 40 years’ experience in trading and portfolio management including positions in New York, and Chicago. He is a Chartered Mutual Fund Counselor (CMFC) and has been an adjunct professor in the Finance Department at Wright State University since 2000.
