This morning, the S&P 500 Index e-mini futures (ES-M3) are trading higher by 1.00 point to $1609.50 per contract. The stock futures seem to be digesting the gains after Friday's rally. Often, after a big rally the next trading session is more subdued, a pause day will often occur. Mondays are usually a light volume trading day. This is the third anniversary of the May flash crash that occurred on May 6th, 2010. On that day the Dow Jones Industrial Average traded down by more than 1000.0 points during the trading session before ending the session lower by 400.0 points. Most traders and investors still have that decline fresh in their memories.
Earnings season is still firmly underway despite many of the large household companies already reported. Later today, leading companies such as First Solar Inc (FSLR), and Vornado Realty Trust (VNO) will report earnings. Earlier today, Tyson Foods Inc (TSN), and Sysco Corp (SYY) released their earnings report. Both stocks are trading lower before the opening bell.
