The long-term trend for natural gas (UNG) has been negative but recently prices have been rising. Even before hurricane/tropical storm Isaac, natural gas had been rising on reduced extraction and increased demand. Natural gas has a bright future but when prices will change their long-term trend is hard to say.
In the short-term, prices have been rising since the 4/19 low. A pattern of higher lows and higher highs has developed with a peak on 7/31. Price has been retracing that gain ever since but is now settling in the $18 level and we can see on the TSI support may be developing. This level on the TSI was tested and provided support on 6/13 and this may be happening again now. Taking out the 8/22 high of $19.47 would confirm a change in trend.
