Motorola Solutions, Inc. (NYSE:MSI) recently announced that it has selected Aviat Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ:AVNW) as the wireless backhaul provider for the State of Florida's statewide mission critical P25 network. Through this strategic collaboration, Motorola aims to strengthen its leading position in the public safety domain.

Headquartered in Milpitas, CA, Aviat offers microwave networking solutions along with a comprehensive suite of localized professional and support services to provide seamless connectivity to federal clients and defense organizations. With more than seven decades of experience, the company’s portfolio includes microwave routers and high power, high capacity radios that deliver unmatched network capacity and reliability.

Motorola aims to leverage this extensive product portfolio and Aviat’s rich experience to build interoperable radio communications system for Florida's P25 network. The P25 project was initiated to address the need for common digital public safety radio communications standards for first-responders and homeland security/emergency response professionals. It ensures that two-way radio communications are interoperable, so that public safety responders can achieve enhanced coordination, timely response and efficient and effective use of communications equipment.

As the leading provider of mission-critical communication products and services for government and commercial customers alike, Motorola has been offering its services to police and security forces and optimizing their operations for years. In an effort to further expand its public safety measures, the company has launched new broadband service, high power mobile radio and mobile app solutions, dedicated to public security. The company’s CommandCentral Aware software has helped achieve a significant drop in the crime rate.

With this software assistance, experts can track video footage, voice and other critical data simultaneously. It uses advanced analytics, accumulating computer aided dispatch system generated real-time information, emergency alerts and information from other data sources to lend support to the first responders within seconds. It also helps crime analysts to confirm the exact location of the responding officers and facilitate transmission of critical data like camera footage, past criminal activity and other such significant statistics.

All these endeavors have not only helped check crime rates and optimize public service operations but have also driven the company’s growth and consistent impressive performance.

Motorola has outperformed the industry in the past year with an average return of 36.6% compared with 1.8% rise for the latter.

Will You Make a Fortune on the Shift to Electric Cars?

Here's another stock idea to consider. Much like petroleum 150 years ago, lithium power may soon shake the world, creating millionaires and reshaping geo-politics. Soon electric vehicles (EVs) may be cheaper than gas guzzlers. Some are already reaching 265 miles on a single charge.

With battery prices plummeting and charging stations set to multiply, one company stands out as the #1 stock to buy according to Zacks research.

It's not the one you think.
