Innovative Industrial Properties (NYSE:IIPR) came out with quarterly funds from operations (FFO) of $1.29 per share, missing the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $1.51 per share. This compares to FFO of $1.18 per share a year ago. These figures are adjusted for non-recurring items.

This quarterly report represents an FFO surprise of -14.57%. A quarter ago, it was expected that this company would post FFO of $1.16 per share when it actually produced FFO of $1.28, delivering a surprise of 10.34%.

Over the last four quarters, the company has surpassed consensus FFO estimates two times.

Innovative Industrial Properties, which belongs to the Zacks REIT and Equity Trust - Other industry, posted revenues of $37.09 million for the quarter ended December 2020, missing the Zacks Consensus Estimate by 2%. This compares to year-ago revenues of $17.67 million. The company has topped consensus revenue estimates just once over the last four quarters.

The sustainability of the stock's immediate price movement based on the recently-released numbers and future FFO expectations will mostly depend on management's commentary on the earnings call.

Innovative Industrial Properties shares have added about 15.5% since the beginning of the year versus the S&P 500's gain of 3.2%.
