Germany-based semiconductor maker Infineon Technologies AG (OTC:IFNNY) and technology behemoth Alphabet Inc.’s (NASDAQ:GOOGL) , Google, recently developed two prototype devices, a smartwatch and a wireless speaker, on the revolutionary “gesture” sensing technology

Previously, Infineon had collaborated with Google’s Advanced Technology and Projects group (“ATAP”) to create a sensing solution that can be utilized in a wide range of applications like wearables, Internet of things and automotives. The recent products have been engineered to recognize gestures that will completely eliminate the need for switches or buttons.

In fact, presently Infineon and Google ATAP are working to commercialize the “Soli” radar technology in order to create innovative products in the home entertainment and mobile devices category. Infineon’s state-of-the-art radar-based sensor integrated circuits when integrated with Google’s “haptic algorithms” can create a range of gesture sensing products that will provide a first-mover advantage for the companies.

Interestingly, Infineon and Google ATAP intend to develop a core technology that can support “augmented reality and IoT” which will eventually help users interact with virtual reality. Toward this end, the 60 GHz radar application developed by the companies – a watershed development in materializing augmented reality – can truly transform the human-machine interface.

Meanwhile, market reports hint at bright the prospects for the Motion Sensors Market by Motion Sensor Technology as it is expected to grow at a compounded annual growth rate of 13.0% from 2015 to 2020. A significant reduction in the size of motion sensors and evolving mobile devices, automotive and healthcare industries are acting as core key drivers for this technology.

Infineon’s solid reputation in providing radar-based sensor integrated circuits signals at lucrative prospects for the company going forward. The company believes that its leadership position in the semiconductor industry will help it reap significant benefits from the ongoing global trend of digitalization. As semiconductors form the very backbone of almost all the present industrial processes, the company is positive about its future prospects.

Infineon currently carries a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold). Better-ranked stocks in the industry include Amkor Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMKR) and Silicon Motion Technology Corp. (NASDAQ:SIMO) . Both the stocks sport a Zacks Rank #1 (Strong Buy).
