Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMD) made a number of notable announcements regarding storage, edge computing and networking, at the embedded world Conference 2019 (“EWC”) in Nuremberg, Germany.

With an aim to assist customers in deploying latest machine vision applications, AMD announced alliance with Mentor and Advantech. The companies are working together on embedded solution aimed at enhancing accuracy and efficiency of machine vision applications. AMD’s Ryzen Embedded V1000 processor is being leveraged with Mentor’s Linux operating system (OS) and Advantech’s SOM-5871 communications module for the same.

Notably, the company’s embedded product stack and certified software assists developers to design robust comprehensive solutions ranging from high-performance computing to edge computing devices.

Further in edge computing domain, as a participant in EdgeX Foundry, AMD’s high-performance hardware is being leveraged by fellow other members, including Enigmedia, BeechWoods and ClearBlade, to mention a few, to develop sturdy, secure and scalable applications.

Coming to small form factor basednetworking and server domains, the company’s EPYC Embedded 3000 system on a chip (SoC) processor is witnessing significant adoption. For instance, AMD’s EPYC Embedded 3000 is finding application in Supermicro’s A+ server platform, congatec’s conga-B7E3A Server-on-Module, among others.

Notably, EPYC Embedded 3000 boasts of high performance cores (count of 16, 12, 8, 4) with simultaneous multithreading (“SMT”) which makes it highly scalable. The processor is enabling PUZZLE in developing PUZZLE series network appliance. The appliance is aimed at delivering robust software-basedvirtual network and wide-area network (WAN) services.

The company noted that its latest offering AMD Ryzen Embedded V1000 processor is also witnessing robust adoption in gaming, digital signage and media server end-markets. For instance, the processor is being leveraged by Sapphire and Quixant to support 4K resolution screen for enhanced gaming.

To quote Stephen Turnbull, director of product marketing, Embedded Solutions at AMD, “The customer engagement with the products has been fantastic and the number of products on display at Embedded World 2019 powered by AMD shows the growth we’ve experienced.”

What Investors Should Know?

We believe growing clout of company’s EPYC Embedded 3000 processor in the emerging edge computing market favors its growth prospects in the longer haul. In fact, per Gartner, 65% of infrastructure service providers worldwide are anticipated to earn 55% of revenues via edge-related services by 2021.

Adoption of EPYC datacenter processor is significantly strong among original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), including Cisco (NASDAQ:CSCO), Dell and Hewlett Packard Enterprise. Notably, Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) and Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN) Web Services announced new solutions for their respective cloud services powered by the EPYC processor. These contracts are helping AMD fast penetrate the server market.

Moreover, AMD’s expanding processor portfolio catering to every price point is well-poised to challenge NVIDIA (NASDAQ:NVDA) and Intel’s (NASDAQ:INTC) dominance in gaming and processor market, respectively going ahead.

Furthermore, increasing adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) techniques and machine learning tools in industries like gaming, automotive and blockchain are primarily responsible for driving high-performance processor demand. These factors favor growth prospects of company’s AMD Ryzen Embedded V1000 processors.
