Hartford Funds has total assets worth $77.9 billion under management (as of Sept 30, 2016). It is a segment of The Hartford Financial Services Group, Inc. (NYSE:HIG) and claims to manage more than 55 funds across a wide range of styles and asset classes. The company believes that “human-centric investing can create solutions and advisor tools that not only strengthen bottom lines, but strengthen advisor-client relationships by helping investors better realize their true life goals.” Hartford Funds strives to beat or meet industry benchmarks through effective human-centric investing. Its parent company, Hartford Financial Services was founded in 1810 and is recognized a renowned insurance company in the U.S.

Hartford Strategic Income A HSNAX seeks total return over the long run with current income. It invests in debt securities in both domestic and foreign countries which are expected to offer a high total return. It invests in securities including junk bonds and investment-grade securities. The diversified bond mutual fund returned 5.6% in the last one-year period.

HSNAX has an expense ratio of 0.95% compared to the category average of 1.02%.

Hartford MidCap Value HLS IA HMVIX invests the majority of its assets in securities of mid-cap companies. Mid-cap companies are those that fall within the range of the S&P MidCap 400 and Russell Midcap Indices. HMVIX may also invest nearly one-fifth of its assets in common stocks of foreign companies. The fund seeks growth of capital for the long run and returned 6.9% in the last one-year period.

Hartford Global Real Asset R5 HRLTX aims to achieve its investment objective by maintaining a globally diverse mix. HRLTX maintains its diverse portfolio by investing around 10% of its assets in commodities, 35% of its assets in fixed income securities and 55% of its assets in inflation-related common stocks. The fund returned 11.4% in the last one-year period.

HRLTX has an expense ratio of 0.95% compared to the category average of 1.05%.

Hartford Growth Opportunities HLS IB HBGOX seeks growth of capital and maintains a diversified portfolio by investing in common stocks of growth-oriented, mid- and large-cap companies. HBGOX may invest not more than one-fourth of its assets in securities of foreign companies. The fund’s sub-adviser Wellington Management utilizes fundamental analysis to identify companies with superior growth prospects. The fund returned 2% in the last one-year period.

As of October 2016, HBGOX held 100 issues with 4.80% of its assets invested in Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB).
