Investing.com – Japan stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the Communication, Textile and Transport sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 added 0.41%.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Unitika, Ltd. (TOKYO:3103), which rose 6.67% or 4.0 points to trade at 64.0 at the close. Meanwhile, SUMCO Corp. (TOKYO:3436) added 6.39% or 76.0 points to end at 1266.0 and Yokogawa Electric Corp. (TOKYO:6841) was up 6.28% or 90.0 points to 1522.0 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Mitsui Mining and Smelting Co. (TOKYO:5706), which fell 7.19% or 22.0 points to trade at 284.0 at the close. Tokyo Electric Power Co., Inc. (TOKYO:9501) declined 6.21% or 55.0 points to end at 830.0 and Sumitomo Chemical Co., Ltd. (TOKYO:4005) was down 3.82% or 25.0 points to 629.0.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 1380 to 498.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 0.28% to 17.73.
Crude oil for September delivery was down 0.24% or 0.10 to $43.77 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in October fell 0.15% or 0.07 to hit $49.16 a barrel, while the December Gold contract rose 0.03% or 0.30 to trade at $1094.40 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.33% to 124.68, while EUR/JPY rose 0.33% to 136.71.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.08% at 97.74.
