Investing.com – U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the Oil Equipment Services & Distribution, Mining and Construction & Materials sectors led shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.49%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Mediclinic International PLC (LON:MDCM), which rose 4.61% or 16.10 points to trade at 365.40 at the close. Meanwhile, Ashtead Group PLC (LON:AHT) added 3.94% or 68.00 points to end at 1795.50 and Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO) was up 3.72% or 30.00 points to 836.40 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Intu Properties PLC (LON:INTUP), which fell 40.55% or 78.10 points to trade at 114.50 at the close. Hammerson PLC (LON:HMSO) declined 7.58% or 31.90 points to end at 389.10 and British Land Company PLC (LON:BLND) was down 5.79% or 35.00 points to 570.00.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1146 to 923 and 310 ended unchanged.
Shares in Intu Properties PLC (LON:INTUP) fell to 5-year lows; losing 40.55% or 78.10 to 114.50. Shares in Hammerson PLC (LON:HMSO) fell to 5-year lows; losing 7.58% or 31.90 to 389.10.
Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.14% or 1.70 to $1231.50 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 2.68% or 1.35 to hit $51.64 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 1.74% or 1.03 to trade at $60.12 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.34% to 1.2782, while EUR/GBP rose 0.44% to 0.8902.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.09% at 96.765.
