Investing.com – U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the Mining, Industrial Metals & Mining and Electrical sectors led shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.05%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Glencore PLC (LON:GLEN), which rose 3.26% or 13.10 points to trade at 415.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Rio Tinto PLC (LON:RIO) added 2.08% or 82.00 points to end at 4024.50 and Carnival PLC (LON:CCL) was up 1.62% or 80.00 points to 5020.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Provident Financial (LON:PFG), which fell 2.96% or 20.80 points to trade at 681.00 at the close. Severn Trent PLC (LON:SVT) declined 1.97% or 39.50 points to end at 1970.50 and Old Mutual PLC (LON:OML) was down 1.62% or 3.90 points to 236.40.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1068 to 921 and 150 ended unchanged.
Shares in Glencore PLC (LON:GLEN) rose to 5-year highs; up 3.26% or 13.10 to 415.00. Shares in Severn Trent PLC (LON:SVT) fell to 52-week lows; falling 1.97% or 39.50 to 1970.50.
Gold Futures for February delivery was down 1.00% or 13.50 to $1338.60 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 1.00% or 0.66 to hit $65.48 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 1.43% or 1.00 to trade at $69.15 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.80% to 1.4047, while EUR/GBP rose 0.15% to 0.8796.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.54% at 89.35.
