Investing.com – U.K. stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Oil Equipment Services & Distribution and Mining sectors led shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 0.80%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Shire PLC (L:SHP), which rose 6.90% or 318.00 points to trade at 4927.00 at the close. Meanwhile, St. James`s Place PLC (L:SJP) added 0.91% or 8.50 points to end at 939.00 and Associated British Foods PLC (L:ABF) was up 0.85% or 29.00 points to 3424.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Weir Group PLC (L:WEIR), which fell 5.87% or 64.00 points to trade at 1027.00 at the close. Anglo American PLC (L:AAL) declined 5.67% or 33.50 points to end at 557.40 and Pearson PLC (L:PSON) was down 4.09% or 37.00 points to 868.00.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1534 to 594 and 448 ended unchanged.
Shares in Weir Group PLC (L:WEIR) fell to 5-year lows; losing 5.87% or 64.00 to 1027.00. Shares in Pearson PLC (L:PSON) fell to 5-year lows; falling 4.09% or 37.00 to 868.00.
Gold for December delivery was up 0.01% or 0.10 to $1166.30 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 2.55% or 1.12 to hit $42.86 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 1.95% or 0.93 to trade at $46.62 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.26% to 1.5314, while EUR/GBP rose 0.05% to 0.7206.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.13% at 97.03.
