Investing.com – U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Friday, as gains in the Tobacco, Healthcare Equipment & Services and Oil & Gas Producers sectors led shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 2.17%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK), which rose 5.15% or 107.00 points to trade at 2185.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Imperial Brands PLC (LON:IMB) added 4.23% or 167.50 points to end at 4130.00 and Old Mutual PLC (LON:OML) was up 4.06% or 7.80 points to 200.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Carnival PLC (LON:CCL), which fell 4.12% or 151.00 points to trade at 3515.00 at the close. Land Securities Group PLC (LON:LAND) declined 0.90% or 10.00 points to end at 1098.00 and British Land Company PLC (LON:BLND) was down 0.89% or 6.00 points to 667.50.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1459 to 678 and 436 ended unchanged.
Gold for December delivery was up 0.46% or 6.05 to $1323.15 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 3.06% or 1.32 to hit $44.48 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 2.97% or 1.35 to trade at $46.80 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.20% to 1.3296, while EUR/GBP fell 0.47% to 0.8390.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.27% at 95.92.
