Investing.com – U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Forestry & Paper, Industrial Metals & Mining and Mining sectors led shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.09%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL), which rose 5.38% or 31.50 points to trade at 617.30 at the close. Meanwhile, Randgold Resources Ltd (LON:RRS) added 3.48% or 205.00 points to end at 6095.00 and Mondi PLC (LON:MNDI) was up 2.98% or 39.00 points to 1349.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Inmarsat PLC (LON:ISA), which fell 2.61% or 21.50 points to trade at 801.00 at the close. Land Securities Group PLC (LON:LAND) declined 2.38% or 28.00 points to end at 1151.00 and British Land Company PLC (LON:BLND) was down 1.97% or 14.50 points to 722.50.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1053 to 1018 and 452 ended unchanged.
Shares in Inmarsat PLC (LON:ISA) fell to 52-week lows; falling 2.61% or 21.50 to 801.00.
Gold for June delivery was up 0.76% or 9.65 to $1274.45 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 2.93% or 1.31 to hit $45.97 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 3.45% or 1.57 to trade at $47.09 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.19% to 1.4470, while EUR/GBP rose 0.37% to 0.7903.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.52% at 93.73.
